What is New Relic?

New Relic is a platform that aids in developing better software. You can import data from any digital source to gain a complete understanding of your system and how to improve it. Troubleshooting complex software manually and relying on customer complaints during critical incidents is not only stressful. It almost guarantees that your users will defect to a competitor before you have a chance to fix the problem. New Relic APM provides your modern development team with the visibility they need to address issues quickly and prevent them from affecting your users. As a result, you’ll be able to do your job more efficiently while also improving the user experience.

Suppose you don’t specify a name in your New Relic configuration file. In that case, most New Relic agents provide a default application name, such as “My Application” or “PHP Application.” If you don’t want to end up with 20 apps with the same name, choose an identifier for your apps as soon as they’re deployed. We also recommend standardizing your naming application to keep things easy to navigate. To lessen the chances of typographical errors and misnaming, you should name your new applications automatically rather than manually. It is not easy to locate a specific application when you have different applications with the same account, and each application spans many environments. We recommend labeling your apps to organize them by grouping them logically. Application name and environment are the two most common labels used by mature APM customers. For example, if you wanted to see the billing application in the test, you could filter by “billing app” and “test.” Account owners and admins can label apps in New Relic APM to “roll-up” into an unlimited number of meaningful categories. You can also use the Applications list in your account to sort, filter, and page through all of your applications.

Some transactions are more important to you than others, depending on the nature of your application. The key transactions feature in New Relic is designed to help you keep a close eye on your app’s most business-critical transactions, such as end-user or app response time, call counts, error rates, and more. You can set up reminders when one of your key transactions fails. New Relic APM provides various downloadable reporting tools to surface historical trends, ranging from SLA, deployment, capacity to scalability, and host usage reports. The good thing about using New Relic to monitor your applications is that it gives you visibility into the entire stack, not just a portion of it. Assume you use Amazon Web Services (AWS). New Relic Integrations provide several practical ways to gain additional visibility into your Amazon Web Services (AWS) applications. The New Relic platform is created to provide end-to-end visibility into the performance of your applications, from mobile and browser to synthetics testing. Most likely, your company already has a set of scripts in place for installing application upgrades. You can also automate your New Relic agent deployment in a similar way to keep your systems up to date. If you run the most recent agents, you’ll have access to all of our instrumentation, API methods, and bug fixes. Puppet and Chef scripts are excellent examples of deployment frameworks that make life easier by automating the entire deployment and management process. New Relic supports the SCIM 2.0 standard for provisioning users automatically, as well as the SAML 2.0 standard for single sign-on (SSO). You can automatically send any user permission changes you make by configuring the New Relic SCIM/SSO application for your identity provider. Users for New Relic can then be created, updated, and deactivated directly from your identity provider without the need to use the New Relic UI or API. Users can also log in to New Relic by visiting their identity provider’s home page and clicking on the SCIM/SSO application tile.
